People kept telling me King of the Hammers was Burning Man for the Desert. But is that good?
IG Review: 2025 Aston Vantage Roadster! THE GREAT: Monster 655HP V8 and a short wheelbase keep the “Scary Roadster” formula alive for those who seek it - except it’s not scary when you don’t want it to be. This thing is just a little rip-snorting monster that does every damn thing well. It’s a true 200 mph roadster with a much more settled suspension than the coupe I drove at PCOTY last year. No more bouncing! A beautifully responsive, controlled, yet smooth chassis. Aston’s gotten control of the engine and gearbox, so the M-B 4.0L TTV8 really does sound and feel far different (and more powerful) than any ICE AMG on sale. Optional CCB’s as good as you’d expect, and a tuned Michelin PSS5 balances grip with low noise. The evolved styling shifts from crass to class, and as the top drops in under seven seconds, I’d be open air most of the time.
THE GOOD: New center console, first seen in the DB12, is a vast improvement with big, clear buttons for the major functions and a responsive, simple touchscreen. Enough space in the cabin for a road trip, and enough trunk space for 2 (which the top doesn’t impede). 8-layer insulated top means it’s even quieter than the coupe when raised. “All Assists Off” button is clutch. Distinct drive modes genuinely change the experience (and don’t be too proud to use WET when appropriate). Roadster only gains 131 lbs vs the coupe, and distribution shifts 1% rearward - 49/51.
THE NOT-SO-GOOD: While the torque converter auto is objectively as good as one can be, with quick shifts and responsive paddles, it’s the only car in its class without a DCT, and the competition is tough in this space. The Ferrari Roma Spider is more prestigious but $100k more, and the 911 Turbo is quicker and technically “better” - a sharper scalpel, if you will, but less interesting. A Bentley GT is more impressive, but at twice the price.
THE BOTTOM LINE: A Brilliant fun, evolved, matured, and riotous roadster. It will shock a passenger with its speed and sound, and shock the driver with its poise and communication. Sneaks neatly into the slot formerly occupied by the AMG GTC as the most versatile front-engined roadster on sale.

CA registered, CARB legal car with a smog check from March. Brand new Michelin tires. Lots of paint protection film. Mods are all reversible and comes with stock parts. They do not make them like this anymore.
This cop rear ended a small crossover at low speed in front of my shop. Within 15 minutes, there were 12 police cars, 2 motorcycle cops, and a fire truck, and they were all there for over an hour. This is the kind of mistake a 16 year old driver would make. You don't do the left shoulder check until the car in front of you is GONE.
